Khan Stops Judah to Unify Title
Updated Jul 24, 2011 2:42 AM ET LAS VEGAS (AP) Amir Khan got another big win, even if he would have liked to do it in a bit more spectacular fashion. Khan stopped Zab Judah in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-round unification fight Saturday night, winning another piece of the 140-pound title and cementing his claim to being one of the top fighters in the division. He did it with a body shot that landed legally, though Judah claimed it was a low blow. No matter, said Khan, who was landing big blows even before the punch that put [...]

Mayweather Isn?t Gaga About Pacquiao Fight
LAS VEGAS — Floyd Mayweather Jr. delivered a fight night taunt to Manny Pacquiao by claiming he would tune in to a Lady Gaga concert instead of watching the Filipino star’s easy victory over Shane Mosley. While Pacquiao was cruising to a comfortable points victory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in a Showtime pay-per-view telecast broadcast, Mayweather was at his Las Vegas home watching Lady Gaga on rival network HBO — and urging his fans to do the same. “Everyone watch Lady Gaga tonight on the best network in the world, HBO,” Mayweather said on his Twitter account. Only Mayweather [...]

Denmark?s Kessler Set to Fight Bouadla of France
COPENHAGEN, Denmark —WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler is heading back into the ring after overcoming an eye injury that forced the Dane to withdraw from the Super Six tournament. Kessler said Monday that he will fight Mehdi Bouadla of France in a non-title bout on June 4 in Copenhagen. The eye injury is believed to stem from a Super Six bout against American fighter Andre Ward in 2009. Kessler pulled out of the 2010 tournament in August. “I still miss a little bit with the left eye,” said Kessler, who won the belt from Carl Froch of Britain in [...]

Australian Aboriginal Boxer Rose Dies at Age 62
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP)—Lionel Rose, the first Australian Aborigine to win a world boxing title, has died. He was 62. His family said he died Sunday after being ill for several months. He had a stroke in 2007 that left him partially paralyzed. Rose beat Japan’s Fighting Harada in Tokyo in 1968 to win the world bantamweight title during a career that included 42 wins, 12 by knockout, in 53 fights. He was named Australian of the year after his world title victory, becoming the first Aborigine to receive the honor. He also was appointed a Member of the Order of the [...]

Pacquiao Couldn?t Be More Prepared for Mosley
LAS VEGAS – There was a time not that long ago that those in Manny Pacquiao’s camp had legitimate reason to be worried before his major fights. He didn’t have a right hand to speak of and he only fought moving in one direction. He was so aggressive on offense that he was deficient defensively. There wasn’t a lot of nuance to his game. One by one, Pacquiao has erased those flaws and turned himself into the best fighting machine the sport has seen since “Sugar” Ray Leonard more than a quarter of a century ago. Pacquiao is the best [...]

Pacquiao Lookalike Has Vegas Doing a Double Take
LAS VEGAS – Manny Pacquiao cruised into Sin City in the back seat of a Honda Odyssey, knees squeezed up against his chin and leg muscles cramping from four hours drifting through the scorching desert. He stepped out of the vehicle, stretched his arms towards the sky and looked up at his face spread across a gigantic electronic billboard, complete with flashing lights, computer-generated flames and the image of his foe, Shane Mosley. A few minutes later he strolled through the foyer of the MGM Grand, where Saturday’s biggest fight of the year will take place, and sparked mild chaos. [...]

Pacquiao Fighting for Filipino Awareness
LAS VEGAS – Manny Pacquiao will undertake the latest step in his bid to join boxing’s immortals wearing an unusual – and distinctive – piece of equipment. Pacquiao will use a pair of bright yellow boxing gloves when he faces Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday as part of his attempt to highlight and eradicate poverty in his homeland of the Philippines. The 32-year-old also has urged all of his followers to wear yellow clothing for the bout, which he hopes will have the effect of instigating a “team sports” environment among the sold-out crowd of [...]

Mayweather Fight or No, Pacman?s Place Is Secure
LAS VEGAS – Eight months after Floyd Mayweather Jr. broadsided him with a vile, racist, homophobic attack, Manny Pacquiao had the means, the motive and the opportunity on Tuesday to return the favor. Just five days before he defends his World Boxing Organization welterweight belt in Saturday’s main event of a pay-per-view card against Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Pacquiao was sitting with a small group of reporters when, as always occurs in these types of gatherings, someone mentioned Mayweather. A fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would be the biggest in boxing history. Mayweather, though, hasn’t fought [...]

Pacquiao?s Most Pivotal Moments
LAS VEGAS – When Manny Pacquiao arrived in the United States for the first time a little more than a decade ago, he was an unknown to all except boxing diehards. Even trainer Freddie Roach wasn’t familiar with him the day that Pacquiao first walked through the doors of his Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles. In those 10 years, Pacquiao has become the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, boxing’s biggest draw and one of the sports world’s global icons. Here are 15 of the key moments in a career that took him from a homeless street urchin [...]
