Manu Ginobili Suffers Strained Oblique Vs. Clippers, More Tests Coming
Manu Ginobili suffered a strained oblique muscle against the Clippers during the Spurs’ 103-100 win over Los Angeles Saturday, the Spurs announced after the game. There is no timetable for his return, and further diagnostic tests are planned. Ginobili only recently returned from a fractured bone in his hand. He’s played spectacularly well, so the Spurs will miss him, but at the same time, their win over the Clippers in overtime Saturday marked their tenth straight, the majority without Ginobili. They’re made to weather his absence, but it’s still an unfortunate turn of events. Ginobili’s absence in the first round [...]

Hunter: Jeremy Lin Could Wind Up on NBPA Executive Committee
Jeremy Lin has been at the forefront of the positive things to help lead the NBA out of lockout hell. And it turns out, he could be at the forefront of what winds up leading us back into it in six to ten years. Billy Hunter recently told Bloomberg that Lin is likely to wind up as the player’s representative to the NBPA and could get a spot on the executive committee. From Bloomberg: Jeremy Lin probably will be the next player representative for the New York Knicks and might win a spot on the union’s executive committee, the head [...]

Linsanity Runs into Hornets Nest, Knicks Winning Streak Ends
There are people saying that Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin can’t coexist. But in the final minutes of the first loss in the Linsanity era Friday night, the Knicks really needed Carmelo Anthony. They needed a second player who can create his own shot (or a shot for others). They needed a second player who does not shrink in the big moments. It’s at moments like the final minutes of a close game where Lin and Anthony could be the kind of combo that wins New York a lot of games. They lost this one. To the team with the [...]

Tom Thibodeau the Player Was All About Offense. Seriously.
There is a Tom Thibodeau you don’t know. Tom Thibodeau the shoot first, offensive-minded gunner. That Thibodeau was much younger, thinner, had more hair, and was still not the tallest guy on the team. But he was still always about hard work, about learning, about attention to detail. And about winning. That’s according to Peter Roby, who grew up playing with Thibodeau in Connecticut and coached with him at Harvard. He talked about the young, different (in some ways) coach of the year in a must-read piece by Aggrey Sam at CSNChicago.com. “When he was in high school, he would [...]

Seattle Groups Lay Out Arena Plan: It Starts with Finding Team
It’s a start. A good start. Details of the NBA arena plan for Seattle were laid out by Seattle’s mayor and the money behind it, hedge fund manager Chris Hansen, in a press conference that sounded more like a pep rally. They bathed the plan in glowing terms as filled with private investment and risk free to the taxpayers. But the truth is that it has a long way to go. It has a lot of moving parts and any number of things can kill it. That it starts with Hansen taking on the challenge of buying an NBA team. [...]

Video: Will Ferrell with the Best Team Introductions Ever
In case you missed us warning you earlier, Will Ferrell did the team introductions for the Bulls at Hornets game tonight, and it was vintage Ferrell. Did you know Luol Deng has a pet dolphin named Chachi? That Derrick Rose’s favorite movie is “The Notebook?” That Trevor Ariza doesn’t think Ferrell is funny? (Just basing that on his reaction to his intro.) Really, every team should have Ferrell come in and do this. Although $ 5 says Kevin Garnett wouldn’t find him funny either. As Expected, Houston Will Host 2013 All-Star Game
No, Yao Ming cannot be voted in as starting center one last time. Probably. For the second time in seven years, the NBA All-Star game will be headed back to Houston, this time for the 2013 game, the league officially announced Wednesday. Houston also was host to the 2006 game. “Houston is a spectacular sports city, and for one week it will be the basketball capital of the world,” NBA Commissioner David Stern said in a released statement. “NBA All-Star is a magnificent celebration of our game, and I want to thank the city and the Rockets for welcoming us [...]

Video: Kings? Isaiah Thomas Gets His Own Documentary
Today seems like a good day to mention this, the day after Isaiah Thomas sparked a Sacramento Kings come-from-behind win with 14 points and 5 assists in the second half. Thomas is getting his own documentary. What you see above is the trailer. Why him? He’s Mr. Irrelevant, the 60th and last pick of the NBA draft last year. So to his credit just making a team – even the Kings – is an impressive feat. Worthy of a documentary? Sure, why not? Hat tip to The Basketball Jones. Tuesday and-1 Links: Want to Watch Gilbert Arenas Workout?
Here is our daily look around the NBA – links to stories worth reading and notes to check out (stuff that did not get its own post here at PBT). Gilbert Arenas is going to conduct an open workout in Los Angeles this week so teams can come and decide for themselves if he’s got anything left. Best video/GIF of the day: Watch JaVale McGee get back on defense. Even when the Wizards still have the ball. Jamal Crawford says he is going to opt out of his contract at the end of this year and test the free agent [...]

Report: Allen Iverson in Discussions to Play in Puerto Rico
To borrow a line from NFL Red Zone Channel man Andrew Siciliano: Practicar? Hablamos de practicar? After playing a couple years in Turkey but not being able to get a look from an NBA team, Allen Iverson is in negotiations to play in the Puerto Rican league, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Iverson’s business manger Gary Moore has talked with Puerto Rico officials, and the league’s teams are discussing a bidding process to woo Iverson. The Puerto Rican league, which starts its 30-game season in March, pays its stars about $ 20,000 a month, plus living expenses, sources said. [...]
